Fashion Week New York, an annual Fall event, is a traditional gathering that dates back to World War II.

Fashion Week, once called Press Week, first took place in New York City in 1943. With Fashion Week typically taking place in Paris France and due to the war, fashion insiders were unable to travel into the country and see the latest and greatest in trends. This is when Eleanor Lambert stepped up and organized a fashion week within the United States and with that put American fashion into the spotlight.  Her idea of Fashion Week in America continued and was held in different locations such as hotels or lofts. In 1994, the event moved to Bryant Park, behind the New York Public Library, where it remained until this year. As of next year, it will again be relocated to the Lincoln Center.

Around the world there are four major fashion weeks.

They take place in the same order each year so that fashion devotees can attend each of them, if they wish. The “Big Four” are located in New York, London, Milan and Paris. The event is held twice a year, one in Fall/Winter (February) and the other in Spring/Summer (September).  Each event lasts one week and allows fashion designers, brands and ‘houses’ to display their latest collections. These collections are shown off through runway shows and allows buyers to get an inside glance at the latest trends.

This won’t come as a surprise! By now you and I are used to hearing feelers of such news practically every week! This one is called Ahmedabad Fashion Week (AFW) tentatively to be held from 27th-29th of Nov. The week will last for three days and they promise to showcase young and established design talents including regional boutiques and jewellery collections. Though the organization is still running on the meandering track to finalize the big names of the industry which is not a tuough task when offering an all expense paid show! But despite trying to buy support, it’s not that easy afterall to convince someone for lending their name to an unborn baby! Ahmadabad based designer Digvijay Singh who has been a part of Lakme Fashion Week for quite some time now, states, – Ahmadabad is the hub for fabrics and textiles and this event can attract good business if done properly. but it seems AFW is going to be more like AFF (Ahmadabad Fashion Fair) due to the involvement of local boutiques and jewellery stores. We have to wait and watch to see the outcome as things are still shaping up at their end.

Fashion week – The Show time of Fashion
Today world is a glamour world. The fashion of the world is ever changing. A Fashion week is related to the glamorous fashion world.  In these days fashion means passion of the life. The today fast and stylish is not completed without the fashion. It is a fashion industry event, lasting approximately one week, which allows fashion designers, brands or “houses” to display their latest collections in runway shows and buyers to take a look at the latest trends. A fashion show is essentially a parade of outfits. In many cases, these outfits are put together by a stylist. Fashion shows are fun and creative way of highlighting some of the ethical issues surrounding the fashion industry. A Fashion show can be as short as 7 minutes or as long as 20. The length really depends on how many looks are shown and the extent of the spectacle that accompanies the fashion. Most importantly, it lets the industry know what’s “in” and what’s “out” for the season. The most prominent fashion weeks are held in the fashion capitals Milan, London, New York, Sao Paulo, New Delhi and Paris.

The length of these fashion shows tend not to last more than half an hour. The fashion show can be as long or as short as designers feel is appropriate. Take into consideration the amount of models designers have, the number of outfits are showing, other entertainment organisers are having and the number of people expect to be in the audience.
